Hayrides

Getting ready for a hayride at the State Park.  Pictured in the foreground is Earl Carr, a member of the Friends of the Park who is the tractor driver for the evening.  Standing up in the wagon and holding a stuffed owl is Park Interpreter Jet Lawler.

The park offers hayrides twice a week during summer months at about sunset.  The wagon pictured will follow a path through the woods and the Park Interpreter will talk about her favorite subject, owls.  She will try to call them at various times during the ride which lasts about 40 minutes.

The other ride offered also leaves at about sunset and the Interpreter will discuss bats.  There are stops along the way at bat houses where you can see bats emerging for the evening hunt.  The interpreter has an amplifier that picks up the high frequency sounds that the bats make and converts it to “clicks” that humans can hear.  The ride lasts about 50 minutes.
