Race Details 2016

                    What:  10K/5K Run/Walk

This is an inaugural event by the Friends of Smith Mountain Lake State Park to celebrate their 20th anniversary as a 501c3 nonprofit.  The funds will go to the park to support programs and activities and its mission of environmental stewardship and education.  The race is sanctioned by U.S.A. Track and Field and Run Roanoke will have chip timing from start to finish.  The race coincides with the return of the osprey to their nest in April.

Where:  Smith Mountain Lake State Park

         Date: April 9, 2015

        Start Time: 9:00 AM

     Course

The course is all on paved roadway, out and back, and takes place entirely within the park. This is a wooded route with numerous views of Smith Mountain Lake. The course is moderate. There are a couple of sharp small hills and a couple of slow easy-up hills about 1/2 mile long. The turn around at the Discovery Center is arguably the best place on land to see the lake. You can see both upstream and downstream for miles. A water station will be along the course with numerous marshals to guide the runners.
