Living with Black Bears

 

On February 9th, Dan Lovelace, Department of Game and Inland Fisheries (DGIF) Wildlife Biologist, will give a presentation entitled “Living with Black Bears.”  He will discuss biology, behavior and how to avoid conflicts with black bears.

Lovelace has been a DGIF employee for 39 years, is currently the District Wildlife Biologist for the western Piedmont and Blue Ridge Mountains.  His work covers seven counties including Bedford, Botetourt, Franklin, Henry, Patrick, Pittsylvania and Roanoke.  His primary duties include providing technical assistance to landowners for wildlife habitat development and nuisance species management.  Lovelace graduated from North Carolina State University with a BS in Wildlife Biology and lives in Bedford County.

This is the second event in the Winter Lecture Series, sponsored by the Friends of Smith Mountain Lake State Park.  It is being held at the Discovery Center at the park on Sunday, February 9th from 3:00 – 4:00 p.m.  a single ticket is $8.00, and the parking fee is included.  All tickets are paid at the door.  For information call:  Smith Mountain Lake State Park:  540-297-6066.
